Shannon Gunn Quartet

The Shannon Gunn Quartet performs Gunn’s original compositions and her arrangements of jazz and pop standards in a high energy performance. They have performed at various venues in and around DC, including the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Jazz on Jackson Place, the Hill Center, Levine Jazz Fest, and more. She has also used this group to perform tributes to jazz masters, such as Wayne Shorter, Hank Mobley, Carla Bley, female jazz composers, and JJ Johnson. She also will perform tributes with free jazz arrangements inspired by the canon from Rage Against the Machine, Pink Floyd, and more. The group typically includes bass, drums, trombone, and either a chordal instrument (piano or vibes) or another horn (alto sax). Below you will find examples of an original (Nature), an arrangement of a jazz standard (Beautiful Love as a Tango), and a club date (What it Takes, an original, at Mr. Henry’s).
